Dear Rep. John Carter:

Dear Rep. John Carter,

It is clear that something terribly wrong happened in New Orleans. Though a certain amount of blame must fall upon the shoulders of local and state officials who should have had better plans in place to deal with this type of disaster, ultimately it is the role of the Federal Government to protect U.S. citizens in times of cataclysmic catastrophe. Four years after 9/11 and our government still is not prepared to deal with a true national emergency. It is naive to blame this failure completely on the current administration - the situation in New Orleans has been predicted and discussed for years - however, the failure of this administration to effectively deal with the aftermath of something of this magnitude demonstrates that they have failed in their role as stewards of this nation. If the actions of the Federal Government during this crisis represent four years of planning and preparedness then I must assume that those in charge are incompetent and should be dismissed. Though one cannot completely blame those currently in the Federal Government for the levees giving way (it has been an issue for 30 years), one can blame all of you for your failure to deal with the results. In our current version of America that is unaceptable. A President with an MBA should understand that no company would allow him to keep his job after such a gross display of negligence. He is as guilty of defrauding the American people as Kenneth Lay, or any other crooked CEO facing criminal charges. I urge Congress to be deliberate in their investigation and heavy handed with their judgments. Do not fail us again.
