Whatever

Money has no value. It is simply paper and ink.

All of reality is simply a random confluence of events governed by an abstract societal structure.

There are Wal-Marts everywhere because we shop at them.

The people in charge are not smarter than the rest you – they are simply better liars (or had a father, mother, uncle, aunt or grandparent who was).

People who drink large quantities of beer are not athletic and constantly surrounded by beautiful women: they are fat and alone.

Your vote doesn’t count.

Rome fell.

There is no God.

The Congressional Hearings on the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice have become a pointless exercise serving only to lionize members of Congress while providing absolutely no use to the American people.

Sam Alito is going to be the next Supreme Court Justice. The only thing that will stop this from happening is if he gets caught having sex with a fourteen-year old boy in a train station restroom. This is because the majority of Congressional members will vote along party lines and either support the President, or vote against him, simply on the basis of which club he belongs to (Republican or Democrat). Bush made sure that Alito would pass the muster with his brethren before propping him up for review. The Myers mistake would not be made again. If this is the status quo for how we determine who sits on the most powerful court in the world then rules are essentially the party with the most members wins. It’s not that Congress doesn’t examine the nominee – it’s that the process is over by the time the tv cameras are rolling. Back room negotiations have assured this man will be the next Justice and so the whole hearing is an affront to our intelligence. It’s a lame attempt to convince us that what we – the American citizenry - actually matter. Furthermore, it puts the nominated Justice through a tumble cycle he probably doesn’t even need to go through. The minute we all wake up and realize we do not live in a democracy the sooner we can settle into our uncomfortable IKEA furniture in front of our 96” TV’s and get on with our lives without these ridiculous infringements into our daytime TV schedule. Since Alito is not obliged to tell us how he would rule on any case we will learn nothing about him and so this whole thing is stupid. This process is just another demonstration of our sham democracy. Something we can point to when dealing with more open oligarchies than our own and say “See, we are a government of, by, and for the people. Not like you. We’re better.” We give off the illusion that the people have some say in what happens when in fact we don’t. For all my stupid letters to my Congressman the best I get in return is a form letter. Senators will berate Alito on tv for not answering questions about how he would rule on something (the only question that matters) even though they know the rules – they set them up - and know he won’t. They are simply grandstanding for cameras and creating something they can point to during the next election cycle to say “See I stand for something.”

Whatever.
