Dear Rep. John Carter:

How can we justify spending billions abroad on an immoral war, slashing taxes for oil companies that take in billions in quarterly profits, and then cut $50 million in funding to assist those in need within our own borders? A nation can be judged on how it treats its most needy citizens and by that standard the U.S. is far from the greatest nation on Earth. To be poor in America is to have a standard of living far below the other G8 nations (except Russia). It is no wonder our crime rate is so high - our people are desperate. Do not fail them. Do not cut the funding for the programs that help them and at the same time cut taxes (by $70 million) for the most prosperous amongst us. If we truly need to tighten our belts to weather the storms that have struck our shores and must therefore cut government spending, I cannot see how cutting taxes also fits into the equation. Perhaps we could simply remove the $70 million tax cuts and then retain the $50 million in funding for Medicaid and AFDC? If I can come up with this plan, I'm sure a genius like yourself could do the same. I know you claim to be a Christian Mr. Carter - what would Jesus do?

Do not support the Republican budget ammendment currently up for consideration in the House.
