Listen.
It has now officially gone too far and if you, whoever you are - but I’m sure I know you because who the hell else would be reading this - if you do not click on the link to the right of this paragraph that says “Write Congress” and express an opinion on this subject then you should just kill yourself.
Seriously. Buy some rope or a gun or some pills and just step the fuck off this planet.
Apparently the Federal Highway Fund, whose operating budget is roughly $30 billion per year, is out of money. That’s right. There’s no money in the federal government to fund it. I can’t imagine why. But one of the proposed solutions is a TAX ON OWNERS OF HYBRID VEHICLES!
Do you understand what I’m saying here? The federal government is going to impose a tax penalty on owners of high mpg vehicles. That’s because the 18.3 cents federal gas tax is the primary method of funding the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and people who have hybrids aren’t buying enough gas. So instead of encouraging the use of alternative sources of fuel so we don’t have to wage wars in the Middle East, the Bush administration feels that taxing Prius drivers is a better idea.
Look, I don’t care if you actually believe that we went to war with Iraq for WMD’s or to free the Iraqis. Let’s just say, for the sake of this blog, that you’re so naive that you think there aren’t a dozen other countries equally as despotic and dangerous that we could have invaded for the same reason (think all of those nations that used to be part of the USSR and end in “stan” not to mention North Korea) - even if you are that person you have to agree that we cannot punish people for NOT BUYING GASOLINE! Please. They have already convinced you that you need to drive a monster truck that gets 4 mpg in order to be a real man (because as we all know we are defined not by what we do but what we drive)– don’t let them brainwash you so completely that you sit by and watch this administration completely sell out to Exxon. We’re spending $2 billion dollars a month to wage a war no one seriously believes we need to be engaged in and as a consequence we have no money to pay for things like roads.
Think about it.
Please.
