Here's why I hate Vince Young.
Yesterday, Vince Young - the star University of Texas quarterback and now NFL rookie - appeared at a University of Texas bookstore and for $99 would take a photo with you. His estimated take for the day was $16,500.00.
Now I know this guys is an idiot (his NFL Combine intelligence test confirmed this), but a greedy idiot as well? Who knew. Here's a fellow who has signed a multimillion dollar NFL deal and he's pimping himself out for $99 photos. What a scumbag. When he was growing up poor in Houston do you think he could have dropped $99 for a photo - doubtful. If he was donating the money to charity I might get it, but come on, this is ridiculous. This is the kind of thing old players do - the players who came up before the million dollar salaries - players like Dick "Nighttrain" Lane.
I once interviewed Dick "Nighttrain" Lane for ESPN. Dick played for the Rams in the 50's and 60's and he is famous for popularizing the now illegal clothesline tackle. Dick lives in a one bedroom apartment in Del Valle, TX. He is on welfare. He never made a million dollars and he is so sick he can barely walk. He came up when players were paid what one should make for playing a game.
If the Nightrain was snapping $99 photos and keeping the money I may understand - but not Vince Young. It's just petty and greedy and it is indicative of how fucked up professional sports are and why we should stop watching them. All you beer drinking couch potatoes who ignore your family on Sunday to watch the NFL should remember that those guys on "your" team wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. The fact that you identify with them and their on-field victories is sad. Go out and win your own games - go out and spend some time with your kids and teach them that a game is only that - a game. Teach them that people should be paid according to their value to society and perhaps one day, if we all do this, our children will fix this society.
Seriously, Vince Young sucks.
