Collapse

My father called tonight to tell me that he received a quote from a roofer. It will cost $4700 to fix the roof on his house. I
informed him that since he has no job, income or prospects, and since I don’t have $4700, I will have to take some time consider our options.
“Well I guess you could just let the house collapse,” he said dryly. “You could just let it fall down on top of me.”
The irony that this was probably the best idea he'd had in twenty five years and we were incapable of acting upon it was not lost upon me.
“I’m going to let you go,” I said. “Have a nice evening.”
And then I hung up the phone and went back to making dinner.
